Another error that I don't like at all

Why is the value alien? I've been getting this error trying to run sbcl with detachtty, starting the swank server from the repl and then connecting to it from emacs. I suspect the problem is related to incompatible versions, but since I haven't solved it I'm really not sure.  (The top level error is really UNDEFINED-FUNCTION: The function CL-PPCRE:QUOTE-META-CHARS is undefined.)
